About Golf Solitaire

Golf Solitaire deals seven columns of five cards, all face up, and challenges you to sink every one of them onto the waste pile. It looks easy from the tee: just play cards one rank above or below the current waste card. The catch is that nothing wraps around — Aces sit at the bottom of the ladder, Kings at the top, and chains die at the ends.

Our free version keeps rounds brisk: 16 stock cards, no recycling, and an undo button for when a chain goes sideways. Clear all 35 column cards and the round is yours. It loads instantly in your browser and plays just as well with a mouse as with a thumb on a phone screen.

How to play Golf Solitaire

  1. All 35 cards are dealt face up into seven columns of five; only the exposed card at the end of each column is playable.
  2. Play any exposed card that is one rank above or below the top waste card — suits are irrelevant.
  3. Chains never wrap: nothing sits below an Ace or above a King, so the ladder simply ends there.
  4. When no column card fits, flip one of the 16 stock cards to restart the chain — there is no recycle, so they are precious.
  5. Use undo freely to replay a chain that went the wrong way.
  6. Clear all 35 column cards to win; unused stock cards are no problem.

Controls

  • Click or tap an exposed column card to send it to the waste.
  • Tap the stock to flip the next card when you are stuck.
  • Undo and New game sit in the toolbar; everything works with mouse or touch.

Tips & tricks

  • Count before you chain: if the waste shows a 7, check whether 6s or 8s are more plentiful among your exposed cards and head the richer way.
  • Treat the 16 stock flips as your safety net — the fewer you burn early, the more outs you keep for the endgame.
  • Aces and Kings are ladder ends, so clear them when you can afford the stop rather than when you are mid-chain.
  • Favor plays that expose cards able to continue your current chain, and give the deepest columns extra attention.

Frequently asked questions

Does Golf Solitaire allow King-to-Ace wraparound?

Not in this version. Aces are the lowest rank and Kings the highest, and you can never chain across that boundary. Some variants allow wrapping; ours plays the classic no-wrap rule.

How do you win Golf Solitaire?

Remove all 35 column cards onto the waste pile. The stock gives you 16 extra flips with no recycling, and leftover stock cards do not count against you when the last column card falls.

Why is it called Golf Solitaire?

Tradition counts the cards you fail to clear as strokes, and lower is better — just like golf. Here a round is simply won by clearing the board, and undo lets you replay a hole that goes wrong.
